MANAGING INCONTINENCE: Why Whitestone?

Poor Incontinence care has many adverse effects. It can lead to skin breakdown, dehydration, falls, embarrassment, and low self-esteem.

Effective incontinence management requires use of the best type and size product for each individual situation, good skin care, and proper application. When absorbent incontinence products are used, they should be changed when soiled, and the skin should be carefully cleaned and dried with each change.

Common treatments for incontinence include:
Medication Surgery
Biofeedback Bowel and bladder re-training programs
Pelvic floor exercises

The type of protective product you use should depend on the type and severity of incontinence you suffer, your overall physical and mental condition, and your normal activity level. For more information about which types of products are generally most effective for each type of incontinence, click on Product Usage.

Choosing the right size product is as important as using the right type of product. While the drawbacks to using too small a product are obvious, too large can also be problematic. Bigger is not better when it's the wrong size.

Too large a product can result in gapping in the crotch area, allowing leakage to occur. The inevitable result will be unnecessarily wet clothing, wet bedding and furniture, more odor, more embarrassment, and more time spent cleaning and laundering. You also risk slippage, and the outer plastic can wiggle into contact with skin, where it can cause irritation and contribute to skin breakdown.
